Naming of the Fifth Day of Creation

PSALM 8

The Glory of the LORD in Creation

1.  O LORD, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth,
Who have set Your glory above the heavens!

2. Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have ordained strength,
Because of Your enemies,
That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

3.  When I consider Your heavens, the
work of Your fingers,
The moon and stars, which You have ordained,
What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?

5.   For You have made him a little lower
than the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

6.   You have made him to have dominion over the works
of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,

7.  All sheep and oxen –
Even the beasts of the field,

8.  The birds of the air,
And the fish of the sea
That pass through the paths of the seas.

9.   O LORD, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the
earth!

Naming the Fifth Day (Creation)

In this Psalm, we are reminded of the glory of creation and the Creator.

We are also reminded of the past special oneness that God had with man, until the fall.

God loved man and still does, who was made in His image.

He wanted man to share and have dominion over all created creatures great and small.

The fifth day of creation is to me very special, as it heralded in the very first day of life, the living birds of the air flew and breathed the air underneath the firmament that had been created for them, and the creatures of the sea, swam in the living waters.

Man, at that time hadn’t been formed out of the dust of the earth until the next day. When God did form man, He breathed His breath into man’s nostrils, the breath of life and man lived, in the image of God underneath the same firmament.

Genesis 1: 20 -23 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let the birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.

So God created the sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind. And God saw that was good.

And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.

In Genesis 1: 26 –  Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.

In Genesis 2 vs.19, God bought all the creatures He had made to Adam to see what he would name them. He said to Adam, whatever you name the birds of the air and the creatures of the sea, that will be their name.

Today in 2021 man has multiplied hugely from the beginning of creation, and it seems mankind hasn’t done such a great job of looking after the dominion given to him.

I thought to include the 2019 report of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

The ICUN calculated in 2019 that 27,159 species are threatened, endangered or extinct in the wild, out of 1000,000 species the biologists examined.

Approx., three quarters of the earths land, two thirds of the oceans, 85% of crucial wetlands have been severely altered or lost.

And yet I declare; O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens.

Adams is history; Adam’s name means man. Today’s message is that the Lord Jesus Christ came to earth, bought salvation by paying the price of man’s fall (sin), to bring redemption so man can once again be in the original order of sonship he was created to be. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish(but once again join the Father… my emphasis) but have everlasting life. (John 3:16.)
